Project Café Racer 2: Local Parts

My last R9T Café Racer project relied on parts I already knew from some German suppliers. With this second project I set out to use only parts that can be purchased locally or easily online here in South Africa, without relying on contacts outside of our borders.

I started with this back-end, which I ordered on “Wish”. It took quite a while to arrive but was about 75% cheaper than the Schnitzer part I imported for my first build. The shape and quality seem fine, but it uses the standard tail light – this is partially what makes it cheaper, but also not quite as sleek as the Schnitzer part.

I installed some “bullet indicators” sourced locally from Max Motorcycle Parts in Krugersdorp (Max-Inc). Again, they are a bit cheaper than the Rizoma parts I imported for the first build. However, I have since located the local Rizoma supplier (RACE! in Kramerville) and so strictly speaking they also count as locally available parts, albeit the more expensive option.

In the end, if you want to avoid cutting your wiring then you need to order the Rizoma extension wiring harnesses (see photo below) in order to install these indicators, so you’ll need to look up RACE! regardless.
